How Labinf organised and centralised its cloud services with CloudFire

Overview

Labinf is a company that has been operating in the Information Technology market for more than 40 years. It integrates solutions, services and technologies for the digitalisation of processes for companies, supporting change and adapting its way of working to the natural evolution of the ICT world and the continuous evolution of new technologies.

Business Challenge

Labinf, as a well-established system integrator appreciated by its customers, covers a range of services that concretely meet the needs of the IT world. Some of these services, prior to CloudFire's intervention, were hosted separately on premise environments and were managed individually. This led to gaps and difficulties for each one of them, which did not reflect the true added value that Labinf offers to its customer network.

More specifically, the on premise environment in which CloudFire had the opportunity to operate was structured as follows:

  • On-premise VMware cluster with Fiber Channel Storage;
  • ERP system with automatic warehouse management;
  • File server containing all cross-departmental company documentation;
  • Local backups managed across multiple copies within NAS in the same building.

Solution

With the aim of making their offer centralised and organised, Labinf decided to believe in CloudFire. They chose from the best cloud services in CloudFire's ecosystem in order to offer its customers automated and manageable cloud services from a single platform.

Specifically, it implemented four services:

Public Cloud

Migration of the on-premise infrastructure and activation of infrastructure in the Public Cloud on CloudFire with a high-reliability VPN extension to create a Hybrid Cloud topology.

Specifically, Labinf migrated existing VMs from their infrastructure, without reinstalling them, to the CloudFire Public Cloud infrastructure. This way, Labinf has the ability to modify the necessary computational, storage, and networking capacities at any time, ensuring dynamism and availability of the best resources on-demand. Such an infrastructure ensures maximum performance for each allocated application, distributing only the necessary resources, optimizing infrastructure costs, with the advantage of being free from hardware costs and multi-year contracts.

Additionally, the ERP component was migrated, allowing for increased performance and providing users with access to the software from any device. Finally, a Cyber Security solution was implemented within the Public Cloud infrastructure, ensuring continuous data protection.

Drive4Business

Activation of Drive4Business with the goal of optimizing access to the file server without VPN while maintaining centralized access control.

Many Labinf clients, based on their business model, need to connect to the company's file server remotely, without VPN and with different devices, maintaining active collaboration between users on-site and remotely, without limitations in sharing. For this reason, Drive4Business and the activation of the corresponding agents for each user allow access to the file server from any location, optimizing resources, maintaining an intact working environment for those working on-site, and at the same time synchronized and available for those working remotely.

Through the integration of Active Directory, the service synchronizes company policies, ensuring replication of NTFS permissions. In this way, Labinf offers a secure and flexible corporate file sharing service with powerful monitoring and control features for administrators such as distributed file locking, audit creation and change history, file versioning, and efficient collaboration features for users.

Veeam Cloud Platform

Activation of cloud backup and storage immutability to ensure greater security through Veeam Cloud Platform.

Labinf was looking for a solution to store a backup copy in the cloud, ensuring greater security and data protection, previously allocated only in local backups managed across multiple copies within NAS in Labinf's premises. Labinf chooses, through the activation of Veeam Cloud Platform, to save a copy in the cloud using Veeam Cloud Connect technology, ensuring protection of the backup data copy provided by the market leader in cloud backup software.

Additionally, to ensure data immutability within the storage and prevent deletions, intentional (or unintentional) modifications of the data, Labinf chooses an object lock storage, which integrated with the backup copy prevents any modification to the data until the previously set date.

Acronis Cyber Backup

Activation of cloud backup for both cloud and on-premise environments, as well as Office 365.

Another cloud backup solution used by Labinf is Acronis Cyber Backup. Through the installation of the specific agent on the device to be backed up, they have the option to choose and set data copies easily from the dashboard, including jobs, retention, and various add-ons. Labinf has also opted for the cloud-to-cloud solution for Office 365 backup. This innovative backup solution does not require the installation of any agents.

The end result

Organizzaione IT prima e dopo l'intervento di CloudFire

Today, Labinf has an ecosystem of automated and manageable cloud services within a single platform. The implemented cloud services enable them to offer their customers innovative and highly flexible solutions tailored to the needs of each business, without compromising on controlled and monitored cloud service management.
